Resurrection – Part 3

1.3  Proofs of the resurrection

We have provided a defence to the two most common accusations against the probability of a resurrection.  Now we will provide evidence in support of the resurrection of Christ.

1) the testimony of several hundred individuals

a) The two women- Matt 28:9

b) The two from Emmaus- Lk 24

c) Peter- I Cor 15:1-8

d) The eleven

e) 500 at once

f) James

g) All the apostles

h) Paul- on the road to Damascus

2) the psychological profile of the apostles.

3) the impossibility of authorities to discredit.

4) the fast growth of the church.

Concluding Thoughts:

The resurrection is the greatest event that has ever taken place upon the face of the earth.  It has never occurred before or since.  It was based around historical facts and figures.

The resurrection is the best attested to historical fact of all events in history past being recorded by 5 writers of the New Testament and by independent writers such as Josephus and others.

The resurrection was predicted in advance, witnessed to by several hundred individuals and over a 40 day period.  If we hold any doubt about the truth of Christ’s resurrection it can only be against all reason and presumes a greater knowledge on behalf of the skeptics than those who wrote about it and witnessed it first hand.
